CANCELED: Wasco & Hood River Town Halls
Unfortunately, I must announce the cancellation of my previously planned town halls for Wasco and Hood River counties on Thursday, September 9, 2021, due to a decision, last Thursday, by House Democrats to schedule a Natural Resource Committee “markup” of President Biden’s “Blueprint for Bankruptcy” (sometimes referred to as the $3.5 trillion budget) on that day. As a member of that committee, as Ranking Member of its Subcommittee on Water, Oceans, and Wildlife, and given that Democratic leadership has told this committee to spend $33 billion (+/-), of the $3.5 trillion found in the Democratic so-called “budget” bill, I must attend so that - at the very least - I call out some of the most damaging parts of this out-of-control Democratic spending spree. Please understand that this $3.5 trillion budget, if passed, will drive our current 5 percent inflation ever higher thanks to the highest sustained spending levels in American history, increase taxes on working families and American companies, create even more social programs (when we are not currently adequately funding Social Security, not to mention Medicare), eliminate “right to work” protections, provide amnesty to illegal immigrants, and put our nation on track for $1 trillion in yearly debt interest payments by 2031 – more than Medicare spending this year alone! I am extremely disappointed to have to cancel my 12th and 13th town hall meetings, especially since they are one of the few times that I actually get to hear in person from my constituents in Oregon.
